Wealthy Affiliate University Review – Scam?

In this post, I will be reviewing Wealthy Affiliate and its online training, or as it is sometimes referred to as Wealthy Affiliate University so that you can make a determination for yourself, whether it is a scam or legitimate online business opportunity.  I intend to give you as much information regarding Wealthy Affiliate including the pros and cons of membership, free and paid., what Wealthy Affiliate offers, what they can and cannot do for you and compare it to another Affiliate Marketing programs that are available online.

Background

Affiliate Marketing is a BILLION dollar a year business, where you use a website to connect consumers to vendors for an affiliate commission.  Basically, you get a finders fee of up to 75% just for being the middle-man and getting those who are already looking to buy something, in contact with those already looking to sell that something.  There are over 3.75 billion people online, which includes social media.

According to my research, Wealthy Affiliate and Wealthy Affiliate University is an online Affiliate Marketing platform that was created by Kyle and Carson, who are two men that went to college in the Computer Science field and also got into the internet marketing side of things while in college.

Wealthy Affiliate was founded in September of 2005 as a keyword search website and has since become a complete learning, mentoring, website building, website hosting, affiliate marketing business platform that has gained more than 800,000 members in their community.

Wealthy Affiliate and Wealthy Affiliate University is unique in many ways.  First of all, it is not just an online business opportunity but a “community of support”  comprised of like-minded individuals with similar goals, all willing to lend a hand with advice, support, and training while seeking to make a difference in the world through their passions and interests.

Another way that Wealthy Affiliate is unique is in the layout of its platform.  Not only is it a platform for learning, catering to people of all ages, backgrounds, and education levels, but it also caters to the current generation in its method of earning “badges” for accomplishments and milestones much like current video games do today.  This is part of the positive reinforcement that leads to success through motivation.

Wealthy Affiliate is FREE to join and start and has only one other membership level, which is the Premium Membership which costs only $49/mo or $359/yr and has never gone up since inception.  If you do the math, going premium on a yearly basis saves you almost 50% and only costs about $29/mo.  Why would Wealthy Affiliate do this, you might ask?  Well, the owners say that they are more into paying it forward and helping others become successful online, because giving back while doing something you enjoy and are passionate about, has more personal benefits than just making a quick buck and adds to longevity in the industry because of a being honest and having a good reputation.

Going premium gives access to more training than is available at the starter membership and allows the member to have up to 50 websites vs. only 2 and more training and one-on-one coaching/mentoring.  Wealthy Affiliate does not “upsell” you on any additional products or services, which is unique in the industry.

Similar OnLine Opportunity – Review

  1. Name: MOBE (My Own Business Education)
  2. Owner: Matt Lloyd
  3. Website URL: www.MOBE.com
  4. Price: Starting at $49 with frequent upsells

From researching MOBE (My Own Business Education), it appears that they have a number of “turn-key” opportunities that get increasingly more expensive.  I couldn’t find website hosting or domain hosting under the links they provide for “Products” and “Services”.  In the way of “Support,” you get redirected to a page that has a hyperlink to show you how to submit a ticket for support.  I did not see anywhere on the website, where you could contact the owner directly.  It appears from my initial visit that MOBE is based on getting you up and running in Affiliate Marketing with plenty of “options” to move up in rank which leads to more income.  Each option appears to cost increasingly more money, up to about $10,000 (nothing ventured, nothing gained or it takes money to make money) on the premise that the higher you buy in, the more earning potential you will have. It looks like MOBE pushes these levels as their quickest way to massive passive income online. Although the owner looks to have done well for himself in the Internet Marketing business based on what the website posts, I found MOBE to be more of a “pay to learn what I did to become successful” type of platform, with a less than convenient communication vehicle between student and mentor.  Based on the exorbitant amount of funds to actually get up and running, I would not recommend this platform, especially not for beginners in the industry.

There are other online opportunities in the Affiliate Marketing industry, but MOBE was the first that I came across that had a similar business model as Wealthy Affiliate.  In the future, I will review more opportunities (including AWOL) to give you a greater view of what’s available so that you can make better-informed decisions.

SCAM or NOT?

Now, this is a Review of Wealthy Affiliate and Wealthy Affiliate University only, and the question was “Is it a SCAM or NOT?”

Wealthy Affiliate is a legitimate online business opportunity that allows you to become your own boss of your very own online affiliate marketing business, from anywhere that you have an internet connection, at any time of day that is convenient for you, at your own pace and on your schedule.  They are a community of like-minded entrepreneurs that are willing to help you achieve your goals while reaching their own.  Wealthy Affiliate has free, hands-on training, 2 free websites with hosting as a starter member that allows you start and test drive before you buy.  Wealthy Affiliate’s premium membership is more affordable than anyone else in the industry, at $49/mo or $359/yr. which discounts the premium membership to about $29/mo and equates to about $1/day.  That’s your very own online business with unlimited training and the ability to contact the owners directly, for less than a cup of coffee.

I’m going to go out on a limb and say Wealthy Affiliate is absolutely NOT A SCAM!!!!  In fact, I’ll go even further and say that Wealthy Affiliate is one of the few, genuine and true online business opportunities for ANYONE!

Now this is my opinion of course, and everyone is entitled to their opinion, so I would suggest you take a test drive for yourself or just look around Wealthy Affiliate and decide for yourself.  Follow this link to take a look around.

  • I’m very familiar with MOBE and with Wealthy Affiliate. MOBE makes a lot of implied promises about making a lot of money, but when you check their disclaimer you will see that very few members make more than $100 a month. When you compare this to the huge fees MOBE charges, it appears that very few ever break even.

On the other hand, Wealthy Affiliate has a free membership which includes training, support, websites and hosting. All FREE! You don’t even need a credit card.

Honestly, I would not expect to start making money with the free Wealthy Affiliate membership. The point I want to make is you can check it out for free and not risk a dime.

I’m guessing 80% of the people who try to make money online lose interest when they see it takes work. MOBE knows this and Wealthy Affiliate knows this too. However, they handle it in two very different ways.

MOBE tries to exploit newbies and get as much money out of them as possible up front before they quit. Wealthy Affiliate offers the free membership to show what it really takes to make money online. Then for those who are ready to commit to their own success and make it happen, Wealthy Affiliate has a very affordable paid membership which includes everything anyone would need to build a profitable online business.

    • Thanks again, Gary. Great stuff. I’ve been with Wealthy Affiliate and signed up premium after 2 or 3 days because I saw the benefit. As soon as I can afford to go yearly, that is my plan. Makes economic sense. I’m in for the long haul because I’ve subjected myself to too many “opportunities” in the past.
